Maula mere le le meri jaan…

An awesome song from the movie Chak de India. Now even though I havent seen it, I heard this song thanks to Vipin. A beautiful number by Krishna and Salim merchant.

Teeja tera rang tha main to
jiya tere dhang se main to
tu hi tha maula, tu hi aan
maula mere le le meri jaan
maula mere le le meri jaan

Tere sang kheli holi, teri sang thi diwali
teri angano ki chaya, tere sang sawan aaya
pher le tu chahe nazre chahe chura le
laut ke tu aayega re shart laga le
teeja tera rang tha main to
jiya tere dhang se main to
tu hi tha maula, tu hi aan
maula mere le le meri jaan
maula mere le le meri jaan

Mitti meri bhi bhurri, wahi mere ghee aur choori
wahi ranjhe mere wohi heer, wohi sewaiya wahi kheer
tujhse hi roothna re mujhe hi manana
tera mera naata koi toota na jaana
teeja tera rang tha main to
jiya tere dhang se main to
tu hi tha maula, tu hi aan
maula mere le le meri jaan
maula mere le le meri jaan

I will let go

This was one song that I heard while watching the movie “Jawbreaker” about a month or so back. Though its titled “flow” I think it would have been better as ” I will let go…”

i’m always swimming against the flow of the tide,
kissing the life into something that’s already died.
i’ve been driving forever, i’ll let go.
i dive into the river, and flow.
you said that you could hear bells in the traffic below,
i could hear sirens and car engines fighting the snow.

Bheja fry

I saw this movie on the recommendation of a friend and I am glad I did. I dont know how and why I missed this movie when it was released in theatre. Maybe cos of its star cast or maybe cos of its poor publicity. Its different is how I would describe it but surely loved Vinay Pathak’s timing. Sarika I believe made a comeback with this movie and still manages to look pretty. And Milind soman aaaaaaaaah…

The best part?

My dad laughed while watching it. :)

Purab aur paschim

I remember when I was in school, during those adolescent years there was a huge clash of values at home. For those who dont have much of an idea of what it was all about, let me start of by saying, we lived in a joint family of ten members where I was the youngest.

Being a daughter of a self-made man, we were bound to do things our own way. I think starting 6th or maybe 7th standard, my dad used to make us watch a few old flicks during our summer vacations. Where Purab aur paschim was a regular apart from Kal aaj aur kal.

I didnt quite understand why he made us watch them, but I somehow always liked the ritual per se. I know many times while watching Kal aaj aur kal, he would often subtly remark that his position in the house is like Raj Kapoor, torn between his older and younger generation. Trying to blend tradition with modernity. Oh, and he was so great at that. We did understand. A job well done.

Har kisi ko nahi milta yahan pyaar zindagi mein

I remember watching this ultra glam movie in my childhood. Yes I am talking abt Jaanbaaz, starring Feroz khan, Anil Kapoor, Sri devi and Dimple Kapadia. It was way ahead of its time, even back then with a close shot of a (may I add, long) smooching scene between Anil kapoor and Dimple.

This was one of its hit songs, that still is a very hummable number apart from the cabaret number ‘pyar do, pyar lo’ picturized on Rekha. The number just played on my random list and brought back the memories of the song, which was picturised on Feroz khan, so in love with a drug addict Sri devi in the movie.

Har kisi ko nahi milta yahan pyar zindagi mein
khushnaseeb hai woh jisko hai mili yeh bahaar zindagi mein

Penguins a love story

I remember vinnie telling me about this documentary a few days back and I didnt know what to expect of it. The title sounded amusing. I thought it would be just another animal documentary where in there would be voices put in to make it appear like dialogues from those animals.

But na, it was different.

Isnt there enough heartache already that we now want to dissect the turmoils of their lives?

I dunno, I was touched and felt sad.

Yeh hai meri kahani

yeh hai meri kahani,
tanhai ki zubani
har zakhm khil raha,
hai kuch mujhse keh raha hai
chubte kaante yaadon ke daaman se chunta hoon
girti deewaron ke anchal mein zinda hoon
bas yeh meri kahani…

ab na koi paas hai
phir bhi ehsaas hai
syahiyon mein uljhi padi
jeene ki ek aas hai
yaadon ka jungle yeh dil
kaanton se jalthal yeh dil
chubte kaante yaadon ke daaman se chunta hoon
girti deewaron ke anchal mein zinda hoon
yeh hai meri kahani…

Haath choote: Pinjar

Heard this beautiful song while watching the movie Pinjar today. Sung beautifully by one and only Jagjit Singh.

Haath choote bhi to rishte nahi choota karte
waqt ki shaakh se lamhe nahi toota karte

choot gaye yaar na chooti yaari maula

jisne pairon ke nishaan bhi nahi chode peeche
us musafir ka pata bhi nahi poocha karte
haath choote bhi to rishte nahi choota karte

choot gaye yaar na chooti yaari maula

tune awaaz nahi di kabhi mud kar varna
hum kai sadiya tujhe ghum ke dekha karte
haath choote bhi to rishte nahi choota karte

choot gaye yaar na chooti yaari maula
