I was damn fashion conscious way back in late 1980s, even when I was all of 6-7. My family being the conservative kinds in that era had a ban on haircut for gals (hence the long hair at that time), but I was a mischievous kid and I gave myself sadhna cut at home. That explains the small frills of hair on my forehead

So its that time of the year again when women fast for the long lives of their husbands / fiancees. Even unmarried women fast in anticipation and for their would be husbands, who are still unknown. Well after around 8 years, I broke that ritual and didnt fast today. Just didnt feel like as I dont think anyones worth it till he actually arrives.
This story actually inspired me to keep away from fasting. So read on…

If the trailer of the sequel of Titanic is anything to go by, it will surely be a rage but not as great as the original. Everyone knows Jack (Leonardo Dicaprio) died in the original. But hold your breath he returns in the sequel.

Before you start wondering if its a ghostly story, let me clear the air by saying that its the most foolish concept that Hollywood could ever come up with to base a movie on.
Anyways, Jack returns frozen in an ice slab, and voila there he is all alive and kicking! But poor rose is dead now. So we dont get to see Kate winslet in the movie.
So its like a person who returns after years only to a world that he isnt aware of… i.e. his future… where nothing that he knew earlier exists anymore. Add to that some scientists who want to keep him captivated for scientific observations n tests n blah blah blah. But our hero runs away to the New world. So we have nostalgia, we have action and emotional melodrama. We also get to see John Cusack (slimmer n sexier) and Winona Ryder in the movie.
Arent they aping bollywood for concepts now? Cos it surely seems like that to me!
I actually had to try hard to spell ‘hire’ while writing something. The options that came in my mind… hiar, hayer, hayre…
Arggghhhh it was so damn irritating !
The last two months saw my craving for sugar going down drastically for reasons quite unknown to me as yet. But that really doesnt mean that I like doing away with my favourite cookies.
In the past couple of years, I have taken a fascination for Choco-chip and butter-chip cookies from Cookieman. And despite its retail outlet being available in Delhi suburbs, I prefer to order them straight from Bangalore, yes, cos vinnie gets hyper each time I ask her to get some for me, as its on the farthest end of the city she prefers to live in now. I like to tease her to deal with it as a payback for the numerous chores she expects me to do (each time anyones visiting her) in a span of 2-3 days from one corner of the city to the other while keeping my sanity intact zillion number of times!!
Now the point being, I had this huge box of these cookies which I got in mid-june and another set of assorted cookies end-june. I know you still must be wondering the reason for specifying the time. Well if you have been with me, you would remember me talking about my sugar craving going down, which basically means I have not been eating much of these cookies. And I was shocked today to find just one single, yes one and only one cookie remaining. You still wondering? How could you forget the other two kiddoes at my place besides me (Just a polite reminder that I am the YOUNGEST!!) who we fondly call MOM AND DAD.
I am not a born poet nor I claim to be one. But yes, every now and then at a spur of a moment I pen down my thoughts in a few verses. And bingo, we have what I like to call a poem.
I know many people usually take hours or days to write one, to perfect it, to complete it, while for me it just happens there and then. Maximum an hour and I have it ready. Maybe cos its pretty clear of what I want or what I have on my mind for it. And I just know thats it. And I dont have much to add, its complete.
Recently, I have been working on a poem for a few days now, which is quite new to me. And its strange also for the reason that everyday I look at it differently and have something else to add. Maybe cos I want to fit in everything that I have on mind, or maybe its still not a complete picture that I am preparing with words. I am always certain of what I am looking at, but this time, it doesnt seem the case.
Whatever the case maybe, its a pleasure to read it and smile for I still dont know whats more to come. I am in no hurry as I have all the time in the world and I would rather enjoy the ride than the destination.
I remember when I was pretty young, say about 10 or 12, my teeth used to hurt whenever I had icecreams cos I was not so regular at brushing twice a day. But that was then. I brush regularly now, thank you.
So, the point was, I remember those days, my daadi used to tell me to brush my teeth with mustard oil and salt to make them strong and white. I have done that a few times and can tell you how yuck that is.
Today while watching Tv with my dad, I saw this advertisement of close-up with salt and the old memories came back. And I asked my dad, so whats next? Close-up with mustard oil?
We all are returning to our roots, our culture. Be it through Baba Ramdev, or through such products. The truth remains that there is a lot to know and gain from our heritage.
But still….. You better brush your teeth!
err… with a toothpaste (with or without salt).
My dear friend Gunjan’s sms took me by surprise when she invited me today for her wedding which is scheduled for tomorrow. My initial reaction was ‘OMG’ and then called her up to confirm that it wasnt a joke.
Pleasantly surprised, I learnt its very much true and happening. She would be tying the knot with the love of her life. I am sure going to be a part of this ceremony as I have seen what effort has gone in making it reach this stage.
Kudos to her and jai for taking this bold step. Guys you rock!
