I never really liked the city and my experiences in the past couple of days have only confirmed my belief.

I ventured out for the first time, all by myself to buy a reliance connection, only to be duped or rather misled by the representative into recharging for a scheme that made my primary scheme lapse. Total loss – more than 500 bucks.

And I am not even planning to discuss the pain of waiting for an hour even when I was the first customer in the damn queue. Call to hubby – “I hate mumbai”. It was after an hour long bickering and 22 hr wait that the scheme was revived, but I still lost 100 bucks.

My foray in the new city led me to go grocery shopping, my second best past time post sleeping. Godrej’s Nature Fresh is just around the corner, and the name and excess hours at hand lured me into the store. I assure you I had nothing to do with it. Awesome brands, a few that I know of and a lot that I had never heard of. A few fruits and vegetables and my bill was close to a thousand bucks. Boy ! Did I do some grocery shopping!!

I assumed it normal going by my past experience at Hypercity which scares me to death each time I try and recall it. No, Dont even bother to ask, cos I aint sharing. Its too expensive for me to share.

Anyways back to godrej, after paying the hefty vegetable bill, I for once thought of checking it. I am not sure what conspired that, since Varshita for one is not known to behave in such an erratic manner. I learnt how extravagantly costly the babycorns were… just abt 300 bucks for 100 gms. Ouch !! The last time I checked I was still in India.

I blamed myself since I wasnt wearing my contacts, but my delhi genes werent quite ready to stay quiet and muttered to the cashier how cheap the babycorns were in Our DELHI. And was I in for a surprise. The pack read 30 bucks while I was charged 300 bucks for that pack of babycorn.

Another frantic call to my dear hubby. Subject and content of the call – “I HATE MUMBAI. PERIOD”.

I remember my childhood days (and before you get started, let me clear the air, they arent that far away in history) and how breakfast was not something that required a special mention. It was there. Like any other normal routine. Be it stuffed paranthas, maggi, chole bhature, grilled sandwiches, egg or whatever. It was there. No issues.

Then came a period of ‘Mom what’s for breakfast?’ when paranthas became oily, maggi’s new taste-maker was developed and that option went out of the window as well, chole bhature were fattening. There were hardly a few options left for ‘breakfast’.

And now I hardly eat breakfast. Breakfast is an event. I am asked by friends or colleagues ‘breakfast kiya kya?‘

A discussion at dining table with dad led me to write this post. Its nothing but a change of lifestyle. During childhood I had all the time in the world to eat, taste and relish anything and everything as breakfast. Then I became choosy. And now I have no time for it. And when I do, its not available.

I hate getting up early in the morning. And maybe this post is here cos its 5.30 in the morning and I am sure I will get one today. I so so wish to have my office at 10, so that I can relish a ‘breakfast’. But then as dad puts it, even then I wont find time as I would start getting up at 9

tch tch !

I have been studying continuously (and appearing for exams) for the past 22 years continuously.

Ever since I got out of school, I have hardly studied before appearing for the exam. Be it the CETs or the final examinations. I just didnt study well. Just a day or two of studying. Infact for more than 2 courses I just opened the books a day before the exam (I am not boasting about it, cos I aint proud of it). And each time the results appeared, I breathed a sigh of relief for having cleared it, and would think how much better it would have been had i studied. The typical thought of:

Agar bina padhe itne marks aa gaye agar padh leti to kitne achhe aate marks

And then I would almost quietly promise myself that it wont be repeated since now I know what its like. But yet again, the exam times come, I dont open the books throughout the year, and then start studying 12 hours before the exam.

And this coming from a person who is doing specialisation in the field of Education…. Not done !!

We took up Dish Tv connection from december itself following the CAS regulation in south Delhi. And it has been a pain in all the wrong places since the very first month of installation.

I am bugged right now because for the past two days it simply stops working at 9.50pm when my current favourite serial ‘Virrudh’ is at its peak and climax. It is so damn irritating that you just cant imagine.

I havent yet started complaining about the fact that despite we having opted for the “All channel” subscription, all the channels never work properly. The signal strength and quality is weak and they show up as and when they wish to and most hours of teh day it simply shows some error. And yes when it rains, it simply shuts down. No channel is available on display.

The trouble started from January itself when they started asking for next month’s rental despite the fact that they were advertising hugely across all over Delhi that if you take up Dish tv now then you dont need to pay anything for next 6 months. For over 20 days in Jan-Feb it was shut down from their end on account of non-payment. Still nothing. They started it and have been promising to extend our period to 6 months 20 days. Lets see how far do they stick to that.

And to top it all their customer care is PATHETIC. They do anything but care for customers. Despite numerous complaints about it all, till date we havent seen a response from their side. Not a single one !!

I think it was the worst choice made and I have been told Tata Sky is far far better.

I was reading the music review of Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and came to know that the album boasts of a Rahat Fateh Ali khan song, one of my favourite singers. The review was full of praise for the songs of the album which has the music of the magic trio – Shanker, Ehsan, Loy and lyrics of none other than Gulzar.

Me being an ardent fan of “Rahat Ali Khan” type of songs, didnt take a while to download the same to hear it myself. Mahalaxmi Iyer has given him company in the duet which has a mixed feel of classical yet the typical Yashraj music.

The song started with the matka beats, the beat was catchy, lyrics mesmerising and the pace perfect initially and I was really looking forward to it. But when Rahat starts singing, you actually feel its quite abrupt. As if the song you are listening to has to have a little more before he starts singing. As if its too soon for him to start the song and once mahalaxmi joins in, the beats catch up and gain pace.

In the review, this song was compared to the magical feel of Mitwa from Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, yet another of Rahat’s song. But Mitwa stands class apart as compared to this number.

This song seems fast, not that Mitwa wasnt, but in this song it seems as though the lyrics are trying to catch up to keep company the beats and hence been sung at a fast pace.

Its now playing for the 5th time, just to check if it might grow on me after a few repeats. One more thing that I have noticed about it is that in between the paragraphs the music seems a lift from any pakistani pop album with a great emphasis on guitar.

ek khwaab to ankhon mein hai
ek chaand ke takiye tale
kitne dinon se yeh asmaan bhi
soya nahi hai isko sula de
bol na halke halke…

Lyrics no doubt are beautiful. But Rahat Ali Khan seems completely wasted !

Ohk, so before we could get over Abhijeet sawant, Rahul vaidya, Prajakta Shukre, Rex Fernandes, (The one and only) Kazi Tauqeer and whole buckets full of them, Indian Indol 3 is here.

And so is their panel of judges, 3 fresh faces ( Alisha Chinoi, Javed Akhtar and Udit Narayan) and the one and only snooty, arrogant and stupid Anu Malik. Somebody pinch me, wasnt Alisha the one who some years (read decades) back had complained against Anu Malik on the grounds of casting couch?? And here she is giggling away to glory trying to impersonate Javed Akhtar’s hindi sitting right next to Anu Malik? Just a perfect example of kiss and forget. Er…I mean forgive and forget.

Anu Malik, my favourite for criticism. He of all the people is sitting there telling people that they dont have it in them to sing. Hello!! Did someone tell him that he has great singing talent??? I doubt anyone did. But still he did sing and made us all reach nirvana by listening to his oh-so-melodious songs and the aftermath is that my ears are still ringing. So, he telling people they dont have “THAT” thing in their voice, well I dont have words to explain what it is.

Javed Akhtar is one man that I respect for his judgement right from the Fame Gurukul days. Yes I accept I am a couch potato or shal I say was. Ohk I accept I watch some reality based shows (bigg boss was my last favourite ), a kofee with karan here and there. But no saas bahu for me please. Coming back to the Fame gurukul days, I have seen Javed Akhtar fighting, arguing and almost close to throwing the furniture at Ila arun for saying what is right and who he found horrible. He did not once mince his words. And he continues the trend here as well. But the sad part of the whole deal is that Mr. Anu Malik has the final word in deciding the future of contestants till the theatre round since he has been the Indian Idol judge for the past 2 seasons. Only viewers like us know what the previous judges (Farah Khan and Sonu Nigam) had to go through. And why they chose not to be a part of this season is for reasons best known to them and left for guesing for viewers like us. The frustration and helplessness on Javed Akhtar’s face is evident many times when Anu Malik rejects a rightful contestant only cos he choses to believe otherwise.

There is one more thing I dont get in this show. They show all the contestants they reject. All the contestants they waste time on watching their drama and galore. But they wouldnt show more than 3-4 contestants in the whole 1 hour ordeal who they give yellow cards to (those who arrived late, thats for their entry in the theatre round in mumbai). When I say show, I mean their performance, and not just their happy faces while they dance their way out of the judges room. Just 3-4 out of some 20-30 selected!!! While they would show the performance of some 15-20 odd ones who got rejected. I thought Indian Idol was all about music and talent, so shouldnt they be showcasing the ones who got selected, or did I just miss something here?

I am complaining like crazy… let me cool off and I will get back to you after I watch a few more episodes of this drama.
